This first volume of “Field Gemology Travelogues” brings the incredible adventure of rubies from Greenland from the Aappaluttoq ruby mine to the market through the eyes of gemologist Vincent Pardieu, who visited eleven times the mine from May 2017, when mining officially started, to Nov 2022, few weeks before its closure. You will discover also through photographs and texts from people who worked on this project like Peter Madsen, who built and run that mine, Leonard Cornuz who worked three years as geologist at the mine, Karim Guerchouche who heated and cut the stones, Hayley Henning, who promoted these rubies around the world and Ulrik Hartmann, who ultimately had the vision to invest in these gems to turn them into exquisite jewels, like the iconic brooch, inspired by the fabric of Greenland’s National costume, featuring cabochon rubies and cut diamonds he worked on with her majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. |
